Is This Real Life?!

(Sorry this Friday post is on a Saturday! I had to present this blog for my senior capstone yesterday and things were just too crazy.)

So the other day I heard from BeautyBySarahMarie and found out that I had received my second Liebster Award in one week! Seriously, thank you so much. I put a lot of time and effort into my posts and it is so rewarding to hear from my other bloggers (who I know do the same) that they appreciate it. Make sure you check out BeautyBySarahMarie and follow her! She has some great beauty know-how that we can all learn from!

Just a recap, Liebster Awards are given to acknowledge the wonderful hard work and dedication that bloggers do. They are for up and coming bloggers who haven’t had their big break yet but deserve recognition. It’s a way to get exposure and hopefully gain more followers. To participate you answer the questions of your nominator, then come up with 10 new questions and pick 10 small blogs (under 500 followers) to receive the award. Make sure you let them know they’ve been nominated so they can have their own Liebster Award post.

Here are BeautyBySarahMarie‘s questions and my answers.

What is your Holy Grail Product?

My Anastasia Beauty Express for Brows and Eyes set. I’m obsessed with my eyebrows and this set helps me keep them beautifully groomed.

What product do you buy least often?

Probably liquid foundation. I don’t really wear it.

Do you have a morning skin care regime?

Umm nope. I trust my skin to nature.

What is your favorite high end brand?

Bare Escentuals. Love their foundation set and eye shadows!

Which brand do you want to try most, but haven’t yet?

YSL lipstick. Every girl has to have that eventually.

Do you have a favorite subscription service?

College budget does not allow me to have that right now unfortunately.

Which brand’s limited edition releases do you get most excited for?

MAC. They have some great collabs.

Do you wear makeup to the gym?

….yes. But just what’s already on my face before I get there!

What is the best compliment you’ve gotten on your makeup?

Can’t remember anything specific but I love when people comment on my lip color.

Have you ever been asked to do someone’s makeup for them?

Yes my friends always ask me to their eyes because they know I have a ton of eyeshadow.

I never chose my nominees for the first week, so I am just going to combine them for now and nominate 10 of my newest favorite blogs!  (kind of cheating b/c she has 1,000 but I just love it too much!)

My questions for you all are going to be ones that I ask on Wednesdays!

  1. How would you categorize your personal style?
  2. Who are your celeb style icons?

  3. What is your go to outfit or piece?

  4. What are your favorite stores to shop at?

  5. Who or what has influenced your style the most?

  6. Craziest fashion choice you ever made?

  7. What’s the most special/memorable item in your wardrobe and why?

  8. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

  9. Biggest splurge?

  10. Biggest bargain?

Looking forward to seeing your answers! Make sure you check out my nominees; they have some great content.

Sitdown with TSS

This week there was a little mishap in coordination for Wednesday. So this week, I will be answering the questions that I typically ask my campus style standouts. Are you ready for some Q & A with TSS? Keep reading…

Rachel is a senior Communications major at Arcadia University.

Categorize your personal style?

TSS: 80’s Glam. I love big, bordering on obnoxious pieces, but I usually only have one per outfit. When people look at the things I buy they typically find them ugly until I put it all together.

Go-to piece?

TSS: Jeans. I know it sounds boring, but the great thing about denim is that it is a blank canvas. I can wear essentially whatever I want with them, allowing me to focus on whatever my statement piece for the day is.

Favorite stores to shop at?

TSS: I’m a big fan of H&M, thrift stores are a must, Target, and Kohl’s.

Trend you are most excited to wear for 2014?

TSS: I don’t follow trends on purpose, but obviously if something is in style it is more available in stores so I end up accidentally  wearing trends. I am really excited to wear the new colors this year…and hopefully see the disappearance of peplum detailed dresses and high-low skirts.

Celeb style icon?

TSS: I said this in my about post as well, but Rihanna is so fierce. She is probably the main reason I became so interested in personal style. It is not often that you see someone who can so effortlessly change style categories (punk to boho to hipster) while still maintaining their “essence.” No matter what she’s wearing, it’s always “Rihanna.”

Who/what has influenced your style the most?

TSS:  I have had so many influential icons throughout my life. Living in London encouraged me to love tights and value outerwear, my friends Niki and Gretchen influenced me to check out the boho look, living in Turkey forced me to figure out how to showcase my personality with dressing restrictions…But my mom is probably the biggest. She is my favorite shopping buddy, passed down her love of vintage clothes to me, and hates wearing the same thing twice.

Craziest fashion choice you ever made?

TSS: I had these really atrocious 5 inch platform sandals with a huge flower design on the back in middle school. I wore them to a band concert and fell over, bringing my friend down with me. I thought I was so cool though.

Most memorable item in your wardrobe?

TSS: I try to buy some form of jewelry everywhere I go abroad. Even if it is cheap, the memory makes the piece invaluable. You get to take the journey with you everywhere.

quoteFinal thoughts/Wrap Up

TSS: Developing a personal style is so important because it is the first perception of “you” that is sent out into the world. I have not always made the best fashion choices and I certainly still have my hits and misses. But style is not just about fashion; it’s about being yourself, wearing what you love, and dressing for the future that you want. Growing up people put a label on me that I really hated, but when I got dressed every morning, I put on the real me. Clothes became my armor and sanctuary, the place where I knew who I was even if nobody else did. That is why style is so important to me and why I encourage others to find their own. If you know who you are and what you want, no one can disagree with you. Style is the best way to argue your case without saying anything.

Stay tuned next week for a new campus fashion hit!
